Alcova Reservoir In Wyoming
Spend A Day on the Water at Alcova
A scenic 30-minute drive from Casper will take you to Alcova Reservoir and its nearly 2,500 acres.
Known for beautiful sunrises, abundant water recreation and fishing, Alcova Reservoir is one of the best places for summer travel. The reservoir’s offerings include six campgrounds, eight boat ramps, an interpretive walking/hiking trail, a fishing pier and more.
Plus, as you fish the North Platte River at Fremont Canyon (referred to as the meadow), you’ll be rewarded with stunning geological views of the Goose Egg Formation and its surrounding sandstone and limestone topography.
In addition to the fishing, Fremont Canyon is one of the most beautiful places to kayak, canoe or boat with water access from Alcova Reservoir. You can rent your equipment from the Alcova Resort, and if you decide to go on paddle boards or kayaks, they'll take you into the canyon on boat, allowing you to paddle back out through the towering red rock canyon walls. Additional attractions include high-quality rock climbing, sightseeing, and hiking.

Alcova Reservoir is also home to the Cottonwood Creek Dinosaur Trail, an interpretive route that takes visitors through geological eras right here in the heart of Wyoming. When it comes to fishing in and around Casper, you can expect to hook trout, kokanee salmon and walleye.

The world-famous Miracle Mile is actually a 5.5-mile stretch of the North Platte River.

If size matters, head 25 miles southwest of Casper to the Grey Reef section of the North Platte River.
