Edness Kimball Wilkins State Park
Just 6 miles outside of Casper you’ll find a wildlife and picnic paradise at Edness Kimball Wilkins State Park.
Also known as EKW, Edness Kimball Wilkins State Park is easy to access and is a family friendly playground in the Wyoming summer.
Day Use Recreation
While there is no overnight camping allowed at the park, it is the perfect place to spend a full day or leisurely afternoon. In addition to a swimming pond, the park’s amenities include 2.8 miles of paved trails, more than 40 picnic areas, volleyball courts, boat access to the pond, river access and playground areas.
Wildlife
Edness Kimball Wilkins State Park is well-known for being a destination for excellent wildlife watching opportunities. Nestled along the North Platte River, the area features galleries of endless cottonwood trees and riparian areas that make the park a natural habitat for a variety of wildlife including birds, deer, antelope and other small animals. Perhaps most notably, Edness Kimball Wilkins is designated as an important bird area by the Wyoming Audubon Society, meaning that it is a focal point for the society’s conservation efforts in the state.
Fishing
The park sits right along the remarkable North Platte River, famous for year-round blue-ribbon fly fishing. Cast a line just a few steps from the park and hook a trophy trout. Get your Wyoming fishing license here. Fishing is not allowed in the swimming pond at the park.
