Overview
The Casper College Kinser Jazz Festival, now in its 58th year, is named for the late Dr. Thomas Kinser, who founded the festival and promoted jazz as a standard component of music study in Wyoming. In 1967, the festival hosted three ensembles. Today, the festival has grown to accommodate nearly 50 ensembles, including college, high school, and junior high school instrumental and vocal ensembles. The festival’s mission statement is: “The Casper College Kinser Jazz Festival exists to provide world-class jazz and jazz education to the current and future generations of musicians in the Rocky Mountain region. Our focus is to present authentic jazz performances by artists of the highest caliber and to offer a variety of educational experiences for jazz ensembles, their directors, and the public at large.” The clinicians provide written comments, a rating, and a custom work session for each ensemble to help improve future performances. Regularly scheduled seminars, workshops, and performances are offered to expose festival attendees to high quality jazz performance and education
