Casper Stories - Omar Bermajo and a Passion for Outdoor Recreation

Grit. Determination. Perseverance. These words represent a way of life out here in the West. And no one embodies them more than Omar Bermejo.

After serving four tours in Iraq as a U.S. Marine, a motorcycle accident in the US eventually led to his right arm being amputated, and his future forever changed. His path to recovery eventually led him here, to Casper, Wyoming, where he began training for the U.S. Paralympic biathlon team, and what he found wasn’t just a new challenge—it was a new beginning. A new purpose.

Today, you’ll find him gliding across the snow-covered trails of Casper Mountain, teaching his kids to ski with the same grit that carried him through war and recovery. In the summer, he’s on the move—running and cycling the scenic paved trails of Edness Kimball Wilkins State Park.

Omar's story is a reminder that sometimes, the hardest chapters lead to the most meaningful ones. And here in Casper, surrounded by a community that values strength in all its forms, Omar has offered a source of inspiration to everyone he connects with.
