Casper Stories - Morris Carter & Historic Trails West

In the 1800s, more than half a million pioneers set out on an uncertain journey westward—leaving behind homes, loved ones, and the only lives they’d ever known. And no matter their reasons for leaving—freedom, faith, fortune, or fresh beginnings—their paths all converged here, in what we now call Casper.

Along the dusty ruts of the Oregon, California, Mormon, and Pony Express Trails, they crossed the wild North Platte River, forging onward toward the unknown. It was here, at this sacred crossroads of American history, that a military camp and trading outpost eventually took root, becoming the city of Casper in 1888.

Today, more than 120 years later, you can still feel the echoes of those footsteps, the creak of wagon wheels, and the resilience of the human spirit. And there’s no better way to step into their world—to truly live their story—than with Morris Carter and Historic Trails West. This isn’t just a history lesson. It’s an invitation to walk where they walked, to see what they saw, and to feel what they felt.

Hop into an authentic pioneer-covered wagon with Morris and ride along the ruts of the Oregon Trail. As you make your away to the banks of the North Platte River, enjoy a Dutch oven meal and the stories of these travelers passed down over generations.
