2024 Marks 75 Years of CNFR and 25 Years of CNFR in Casper

February 28, 2024—Casper, Wyoming—Visit Casper is partnering with the Casper College Rodeo Team for the 2024 season, which coincides with the 25th anniversary of College National Finals Rodeo (CNFR) in Casper and the event’s 75th year.

“This is a natural partnership for Casper College and our rodeo team,” said Jhett Johnson, Casper College head rodeo coach. “Champions have been made in Casper for decades and our athletes welcome the opportunity to represent Casper and the sport of rodeo.”

The college rodeo regular season runs from September through the end of April, with athletes competing in a variety of events that include bareback riding, bull riding, saddle bronc riding, steer wrestling, tie-down roping, team roping, barrel racing, breakaway roping and goat tying. As part of this sponsorship, Casper College athletes will be wearing a special anniversary patch to help promote CNFR’s 25th year of being held in Casper, Wyoming.

Prior to the CNFR, Casper College athletes will represent Casper during both National Travel & Tourism Week and at rodeos around the region.  During CNFR, which is slated for June 9-15, 2024, athletes will also participate in the CNFR Rodeo Red Carpet. To compete in CNFR, student athletes from more than 135 colleges must rank in the top three for their event during the season, with the top two men’s and women’s teams also qualifying. After the chosen athletes are announced, Visit Casper will sponsor up to six athletes directly at CNFR, encouraging our local community to cheer on our local talent.

“Rodeo is an integral part of Casper and the Wyoming way of life,” said Tyler Daugherty, CEO of Visit Casper. “Throughout rodeo’s regular season and during CNFR, we encourage our local community to cheer on these college athletes as we come together to celebrate such an amazing anniversary and the state’s official sport.”

Upcoming rodeos include:

  • Casper College Rodeo, April 12-14
  • CNFR, June 9-15
