Thanksgiving Events to Celebrate the Season in Casper

Casper is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts, and Thanksgiving Day is a perfect opportunity to enjoy that crisp autumn air. Consider these options:

TURKEY TROT

What better way to kick off a day of feasting than by burning calories before you ingest them? Casper’s local running club, the Windy City Striders, puts on an annual Turkey Trot. This 5K race costs only $5 to enter and starts at 9 a.m. Register online in advance here!

HIKE (OR SNOWSHOE) CASPER MOUNTAIN

Nearby Casper Mountain, less than 30 minutes from downtown, offers stunning fall foliage and trails for all skill levels. Depending on the weather, it’s also a great Nordic skiing and snowshoeing destination! There’s nothing like a brisk hike to work up an appetite for turkey, stuffing, and pumpkin pie.

DOWNTOWN CHRISTMAS TREE PARADE AND TREE LIGHTING

Every year on the weekend following Thanksgiving, the Casper community gathers at David Street Station for what locals and visitors alike consider a Hallmark movie-worthy event. The Downtown Christmas Tree Parade and Tree Lighting starts with the lighting of one of the largest Christmas trees you’ll ever seen, placed right in the center of David Street Station’s ice-skating rink. Then, our downtown streets are filled with spectators of the parade as they sip their hot chocolates and pumpkin spiced lattes. It’s truly a scene straight out of a Christmas movie.

If staying indoors is more your style, don’t despair. There are plenty of enjoyable experiences to be shared with loved ones in the comfort of the great indoors.

THANKSGIVING EVE BAR CRAWL

The perfect prelude to Thanksgiving, and the ideal way to avoid cabin fever, Casper's Thanksgiving Eve Bar Crawl lasts from 5 to 11 p.m. on Wednesday, November 27. Your ticket and wristband will provide you with drink specials, free entry to 4+ bars, and access to an exclusive afterparty. Drink (and crawl) responsibly!

VOLUNTEER

It’s easy to forget how much we have to be thankful for. Why not give back to the community and those who are hungry this Thanksgiving Day by volunteering at a food bank? Joshua’s Storehouse will be teaming up with the Salvation Army and serving food boxes, and Holy Cross Center will be distributing turkeys throughout November. Both are accepting volunteers. What better way to spread holiday cheer and make a difference?
