Bessemer Bend National Historic Site, also known as Red Buttes Crossing, is one of the great places to stop along the historic trails in Natrona County. This was once the last crossing of the North Platte River for emigrants headed west on the Oregon, California, and Mormon Trails. Even the Pony Express Route forded the river at this location. Today you can walk the short paved interpretive trail enjoying the scenic area. There are a few picnic tables, a vault toilet, and nearby river access. The interpretive site itself is a non-fee area and is ADA accessible.
