At long last, The Suffragette Symphony will debut at the John F. Welsh Auditorium on March 12, 2022! The focal point of The Suffragette Symphony, is an original composition commissioned by the WSO from composer Stephanie Ann Boyd titled Julia Louisa Esther. Boyd traveled to Wyoming not only to hear the orchestra perform, but also to experience vast swaths of our landscapes and communities, as well as speak to local historians all to inform the composition of this one of a kind piece. We are so excited to have the opportunity to finally debut this landmark composition and for it to be heard live as well as for years to come. To round out this unique program the WSO will perform works centering around women and their experiences such as Florence Price’s Dances in the Canebrakes and selections from Bizet’s Carmen Suite. If this program wasn’t already exciting enough, the WSO has much more in store to celebrate this long awaited debut.
A free livestream of the concert will also be offered on the WSO website on Saturday at 7:30PM as well as a rebroadcast of the stream Sunday at 2:00PM. Our Saturday morning dress rehearsal at 11:00 AM with admittance of $10 for a family or free with the donation of a canned food item to Wyoming Food for Thought. Tickets to the concert, dress rehearsal or livestream can be purchased on the WSO website, by phone, or at the WSO office. This will be a full capacity concert, and as such we will be requiring masks be worn while inside the venue.
