J Shogren is “an affable bear of a man” (NYT), a “brilliant storyteller” (Rootsy), and a “Wyoming music legend” (Wy Eagle) whose songs have taken him from the local bar scene in Centennial to the Lincoln Center in NYC and Kennedy Center in DC and back again.

In a voice “like one of those great bluesmen from ninety years ago” (Oliver di Place), his dark and humorous stories are “endearingly eclectic” (New Song) and “like a garden full of wildflowers” (Performing Songwriter). “Split the difference between Cohen and Dylan…you’ll have a place to start” (Rambles).

J’s catawampus songwriting explores roots and traditional music filtered through a contemporary dissonant transmitter: “Americana at its best” (Village Records). J Shogren has shared the stage with Jalan Crossland, 10¢ Stranger, Aaron Davis, Two Tracks, Darrell Scott, Mary Gauthier, Susan Gibson, Dakota Dave Hull, Nels Cline, and Max Hats & Edda Glass. His latest album is Slow Bird Winter. He lives in Centennial, Wyoming…100 or so people, and 4 or 5 bars, depending. (Images by Mike Vanata and Susan Moldenhaur)
