Make it a Labor Day Weekend to remember in Casper! Take advantage of the cooler weather and the three-day weekend with outdoor adventures like fishing along the North Platte River, hunting among millions of acres of public land, and biking the trails of Central Wyoming.

Here’s a look at some fun things to do on Labor Day Weekend!

Fishing Casper’s Waterways

Enjoy your three-day weekend in the waterways of Casper, named the number one Big Fish Destination by American Angler Magazine. With close to 3,000 to 5,000 fish per mile, the North Platte River is a popular spot with novice and experienced fly-fishing fans alike.

For rainbow trout, make your way to the Grey Reef – 25 miles southwest of Casper. Or thirty minutes outside of town, on its 2,470 acres, the Alcova Reservoir welcomes anglers via boat and the fishing pier. Boat rentals are available at the nearby Alcova Resort, which is also home to RV hookups, dining, and more.

The Pathfinder Reservoir, 47 miles outside of town, features 117 miles of shoreline along the North Platte River, making it one of the area’s most popular spots for fly fishing.

No matter where you decide to go fishing, it’s a good idea to connect with area fishing guides and outfitters to learn about water rights, rules and regulations, and all the best fishing spots.

Hunting in Wyoming

This Labor Day Weekend, make your way outdoors for a few days of hunting in the millions of acres of public land in Central Wyoming. Take in the scenic landscapes and be on the lookout for duck, turkey, pheasants, deer, pronghorn antelope, and elk.

The team at Visit Casper has partnered with Infinite Outdoors to connect hunting and fishing enthusiasts with over 150 private properties encompassing more than 500,000 acres of land for both hunting and fishing. And for the latest hunting regulations, you can check in with the Wyoming Game and Fish Department

Biking Casper’s Trails

If you’re hoping to squeeze in a good workout over the weekend, there’s no better way than to hit the biking trails around Casper. Make your way to Eadsville Trail, just past the Casper Mountain Trails Center. At 8,000 square feet above elevation, this four-mile, single-track dirt ride has spectacular views along the groomed trail including granite rock features throughout the course.

Casper Mountain has trails for all, ranging from beginner rides to more mountainous rides for experienced bikers. Choose from paved trails to wooded rails, including some along the North Platte River. With more than 50 miles of trails, there’s a good reason it is the most popular mountain biking spot in Wyoming.

Sleeping Under the Stars

If you’re hoping for an overnight trip, there are plenty of camping options in Casper! At the Trappers Route Area along the North Platte River, choose from four developed campgrounds offering both tent and camper-friendly campsites. Here, you’ll be right along the riverbanks for prime fishing and wildlife viewing.

For Summer 2024, campsites on Casper Mountain are unfortunately closed due to construction. But the trails are still open and usable for biking and hiking.

RV campers can make their way to the Alcova Reservoir and the Little Sandy Beach & RV area. Rent canoes and jet skis and enjoy swimming in the lake too.

With 84 RV sites and 10 tent sites, Fort Caspar is the largest campground in Casper and is home to two private fishing lakes and access to the North Platte River.
