Moving to a new city can be a challenge. At times, you might find yourself feeling like Kevin from Home Alone 2 when he’s lost in New York.

But here’s the thing, it doesn’t take too long before Casper starts feeling like home. Once you realize that when people say “outer drive” they’re talking about Wyoming Boulevard, that 2nd street takes you from one side of town all the way to the other and that we have not one, but two, Walmarts, you’ll be just fine.

But just for good measure, we’re here to walk you through our amazing city and fill you in on all things Casper. Hopefully after you read this, you’ll be able to experience everything our city has to offer just like we do.

Pay attention, and in no time, you’ll go from feeling like Kevin in Home Alone 2 to Will Ferrell in Elf; you’ll be waving at strangers, hopping across our intersections and chewing old gum you find around town.

That last one was just a joke, please don’t do that…

First of all, the best way to get familiar with Casper is to experience it for yourself. One of the first things you should do, besides unpack of course, is head up Casper Mountain. If you have any second doubts about your move, they’ll all disappear when you see the view of your new home from the scenic overlook.

Then, hike the bridle trail and spend some one on one time with our beautiful waterfall.

By now I’m guessing you’ve already fallen in love.

It’s always important to learn about your city’s history, so we recommend stopping into the National Historic Trails Interpretive Center. Here, you’ll get the full rundown on Casper’s origin story, and learn about the pioneers that passed through here long before us on the Oregon, Mormon and California trails.

The Historic Trails Interpretive Center in Casper, WY is a great way to learn more about the history and nature of Wyoming area

You’ve now seen at least three things that every Casperite (by the way, that’s what you are now so welcome to the club) has to see.

You’ve still got a lot more to do, but you’ll get there eventually.

The next important step of getting yourself situated in a new city is finding a new favorite restaurant.

What do you like to eat? Chinese, American or Mexican food? No matter what you prefer, Casper has you covered. Honestly, our culinary scene is a lot more diverse than you may think. If you don’t believe us, click here and read about how you can eat internationally without even leaving town.

You can see the full list of Casper’s restaurants by clicking here, but we’d love to give you some recommendations.

If you’re looking for a great burger, chicken sandwich or salad, give the Branding Iron a try. With the Travel Channel naming them home to the best burger in Wyoming, we’re sure you won’t be disappointed.

When you start craving chips & salsa, some frozen margaritas and tacos, La Cocina is a family owned Mexican restaurant that serves their food with an American twist. They always have great specials, and will quickly become on of your favorite Mexican restaurants of all time.

No Casper restaurant guide is complete without a great place for Chinese takeout. Fortunately, Casper has a lot of options. J.S ChineseWonderful House and Full House Chinese are all delicious, and you’ll have to try them all and let us know which one was your favorite because it’s just too hard for us to choose.

At this point, you’re probably wondering to yourself, “How do I meet people? And where does everyone go to hangout?”

As far as community events go, David Street Station puts on free gatherings year-round, but especially in the summers. Whether it’s a farmer’s market, movie night, live music or just people enjoying the splash pad, David Street Station almost always has something going on between the months of May to September that always draw a crowd. This makes it a great place to meet new people and make friends. We suggest getting outside of your comfort zone and volunteering, which is always a great way to force yourself to interact with our awesome community members.

If you’re a sports or music fan, the Gaslight Social is a popular restaurant & bar right downtown. It’s a great place to socialize as they serve great drinks, play live sports and will often host concerts and other live music events. They even have arcade games to play and an outdoor volleyball court and cornhole to enjoy during the warmer months.

So you’ve officially moved, you’ve got a list of things to go do and see, you know where to eat and where to make some new friends which means you’re officially a part of Casper. We’re excited to have you, and if you need anything else, just let us know.

And remember, if you find gum under a table or on the ground, don’t eat it. We hope to see you around!
